Well all this fire is ruining my star gazing. Not only does it outshine many of the stars, it also fills the air with smoke.

So while I was sitting in my front lawn trying to look at the stars, some guy walked by and shined a flashlight in my face and went "Ooooohhhh." then walked off. No idea what happened. Kind of sounded like my neighbor, but he didn't look nearly tall enough.

We use fireworks because people used to fire off cannons and guns on July 4th. Which is more awesome. But also more deadly. :9

Scored a Plo Koon action figure today. My Star Wars display is growing.

Fire cannons is not as awesome. Cannons don't end with a fiery explosion. They end with a big hunk of metal smashing into dirt and simply creating a dust cloud. I just find Independence Day a little stupid in general. First of all I find nationalism to be ridiculous. Politics and borders are dwarfed by cultural identity. You can't put a concrete date on when a culture started. There is no manufacture date, no serial number for things like that. I also realize that we represent our culture with our country, but that bugs me more. That shouldn't be necessary. Ugh. I'm ranting. My bad. My point is that people should learn to separate culture from country. They're not the same thing even though the majority of people treat them as such.

I love nationalism. And you are a pinko Communist who needs to go to Cuba! *rage* ;9 *joke* You're lucky CB isn't here, lol.

Seriously, lots of cultures since the dawn of time don't even get along with themselves, thus we have countries, and sometimes civil wars. Otherwise, Prussia and Austria would have united long ago, but instead they elected to kill each other.

I look at Independence Day as hardly stupid, and I always think of the soldiers and other men and women who've died for the USA. Millions of them. I hate the playing of Taylor Swift and Madonna and all that during fireworks. It should only be patriotic music.

EDIT: Watch this! This actually made me tear up a bit, especially when it showed the Vietnam vet putting a memorial in front of his old buddy's name... Watch the whole thing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az5DBgVz ... re=related

And don't worry, you're entitled to your opinion. Thanks to the USA. :D

EDIT: Totally unrelated, but freaking epic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmjtZLbY ... ure=fvwrel

Turkish music FTW.

Had a productive 'free' day yesterday ... worked on a couple of minfig, worked on round 2 of ME3, worked on a special project some more, and didn't worry about chores or such. Nice to have a true day off!

I had the day off as well. It was quite nice.

Exactly, MC, well-said. No way in heck would I die for a culture. Meanwhile, if I was on a battlefield with a bunch of other Americans, and I saw crossing that field as good for the fate of my country, I think I'd do it. That's why I'm still quite open to joining the military.

I worked last night, and got paid double time from 8 PM til midnight. I didn't do a single thing of work for the first hour either :) One of the cool highlights of the night was seeing fireworks shooting off like crazy from the east and an awesome lightning storm forming in the west. I've never seen those 2 together.

Gotta love when things like that happen. It may be one of the reasons I never really mind working on holidays. Little to do, get paid more to do it. The fireworks and lightning both in the sky sounds amazing to watch as well.

@Napo: I'm not saying that we shouldn't have countries. Nationalism is the belief that your country is the best in the world and that it can beat up all the other countries. Nationalism is a recent development. It only showed up in the 1700's. Countries should be the foundation of a culture. They should be separate from each other, but they should both exist. I'm also not being biased against just Independence Day. I don't really like the idea of setting aside designated days to celebrate certain things. I don't need special days for stuff like that. I'm in constant thought and think about those things every day.

You could call me a commie in the sense that I believe that people should do things for the good of the group first and that personal gain should come second. I also don't believe that's possible. There's nothing wrong with any political system. The only fault lies with people.

I love technology. I needed to print in color off of my laptop, and just grabbed the cable from the other computer, plugged it into this one, and a couple minutes later, bam, I can print! [of course then it ran out of ink and I had to find the new cartridge...]
