Whether its cutting wood or hewing stone, axes are a testament to millenia of cutting tool implements. It stands to reason that such devices were naturally recruited for military use. Just like as their utilitarian counterparts, Battle Axes came in an array of shapes, sizes, designs & purpose. Lighter, single-blade axes were used in close melee combat, whereas longer pole axes were intended to stun and dismount cavalry.
